C&O Class K-1 Mikado steam locomotive

The first Mikado locomotives on the C&O were designed by the American Locomotive Company in 1911, and based largely on the C&O 4-8-2 Class J-1, with a two-wheel lead truck substituted for the J-1's four-wheel pilot truck. The first K1, locomotive #800, was completed at the Richmond plant of the American Locomotive Company (Alco) and delivered to C&O in December 1911. The last K-1 in service was retired in 1953.

Additional information on the C&O's Class K-1 locomotive can be found here: Mikado Type of Locomotive for the Chesapeake & Ohio (Google Books).
