The R.J. Corman Railroad Group took over operation of the Thurmond to Mt. Hope portion of the former Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Loup Creek Branch in July of 2005, rebuilding the section of the former KGJ&E branch that extended to Pax in 2006. The line served four industries along the 16-mile route -- Georgia Pacific, Austin Powder and Tanner Industries in Mount Hope, and Pioneer Fuel Company near Pax. The Georgia Pacific plant is currently closed.
