This article, from the November 1918 edition of The Boiler Maker, describes the ten 2-10-10-2 Mallet steam locomotives, which was then just being delivered to the line by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO), to be used as pusher engines on the nearly 14-mile grade between Elmore and Clarks Gap, West Virginia. The article provides some details about the huge boiler and provides side and cross-section elevation drawings of the boiler. The article also describes the difficulties encountered in shipping the large locomotive from the manufacturer to the Virginian.
