The August 1917 edition of Commercial America featured an article about the four experimental 120-ton steel gondola cars that had been built for the Virginian Railway. Four car were ordered from four different manufacturers. The four manufacturers were the Cambria Steel & Iron Company of Johnstown, PA, and the Pressed Steel Car Company, and the Standard Steel Car Company, both of Pittsburg, PA, and the Virginia Bridge & Iron Company, of Roanoke, VA. The article provides details and specifications for the car built by the Virginia Bridge & Iron Company.
