The November 1918 edition of the Railway Mechanical Engineer featured elevation and cross section drawings of the Virginian Railway 2-10-10-2 Mallet articulated compound steam locomotive, built by the American Locomotive Works for use on the Virginian's 13.4-mile grade between Elmore and Clarks Gap, West Virginia.

The November 1918 edition of The Boiler Maker featured an article,Large Boilers for New Mallet Locomotive, about the boiler used on the Virginian 2-10-10-2 locomotives that contained side and cross-section drawings of the boiler.
